Westwood Shotokan Karate

The Westwood Shotokan Karate Dojo is dedicated to the teaching of Shotokan Karate, the philosophy of the martial art, the development of one's inner strength, and self-defense. The curriculum consists of scheduled group practices, lectures, seminars and special training sessions. Classes are held for beginners, intermediate and advanced level participants. 

All instructors are  members of black belt members of Shotokan Karate of America (SKA) holding black belt degrees (ranging from first to the highest level of fifth degree) conferred by Mr. Tsutomu Ohshima, the Shihan (head instructor) of SKA. Mr. Tsutomu Ohshima, a direct student of master Gichin Funakoshi (1868-1957), brought Shotokan Karate from Japan to the United States in 1955 where he founded Shotokan Karate of America with its headquarters in Los Angeles. Shotokan Karate of America is a non-profit organization dedicated to the teaching of Karate in the United States since 1955. It is the oldest Karate organization in the United States and has numerous Dojos across the United States and abroad.

Members of Westwood Shotokan Karate participate in SKA special trainings that are typically held regionally twice a year (winter and summer). These training are unique in that they allow the Karate student to discover how to push oneself to one's limit and have the opportunity to train with SKA members from other parts of the USA and the world.
